Based on the markings it looks like they’re headed west to SERA in California.
I like the idea of the genset but from what I've read they're not quite ready for prime time. Additional complexity and just more to go wrong seems to have domed them. Perhaps if they can work out the reliability issues (or just go battery hybrid) the concept will be usable in a production environment.

GenSet locomotives have multiple engines instead of one big engine, so it runs one at low power, two at half power, three at full power, the theory is locomotives only spend a little time at full power so the can run smaller engines that pollute less and use less fuel
Think of it like cylinder deactivation for locomotives
